China's Role

CHINA FUNDS, ARMS AND PROTECTS THE MURDERERS

China’s foreign policy is to do business with any nation that will do business with them, including rogue nations. Because no one else wants to do business with Sudan, China has a lock on its oil supply, and will go to extreme measures to protect its monopoly.

Here is how China conspires with Sudan’s genocide in Darfur:

 1. FUNDING THE MILITARY: China develops, extract and then buys around 70% of Sudan’s global oil exports. Then, Sudan takes 70% of their oil export profits and puts it back into their military. So China is indirectly, but knowingly, helping to fund the military and its genocide in Darfur.

 2. SUPPLYING THE WEAPONS: China has been a major arms supplier to Sudan since the 1990s. This includes not only Chinese made small arms weapons, support vehicles, fighter aircraft and helicopters but they established three weapons manufacturing plants. According to UN and human rights organizations in the Darfur area these are the same weapons being used by the Sudanese government forces and the Sudanese supported janjaweed militia. In this case China is directly supplying the military, and indirectly supplying the janjaweed militia, both of which continue to slaughter men, women, and children indiscriminately in Darfur.

3. BLOCKING JUSTICE: China has used its seat on the UN Security Council to hamper any action against the government of Sudan by the UN. In July of 2004, China prevented the enforcement of an arms embargo of the janjaweed, and provision of food and medicine for refugees.  A few months later China halted a threat to impose sanctions on Sudan’s petroleum sector and was also able to delay, by 6 months, a ban on all offensive military flights. The following year China was able to remove 13 of the 17 Sudanese government officials charged with war crimes from a list of individuals subject to travel bans and financial sanctions.  China repeatedly weakens resolutions and authorizations for peacekeeping, genocide prevention and aid for the victims.

China funds the genocide, supplies the forces that are carrying out the genocide, and uses its seat on Security Council to protect them.

CHINA WANTS YOUR APPROVAL

The international scrutiny of being chosen for the 2008 Olympic Games has made China appear to help stop the genocide. In November of 2006, under intense pressure, China helped get Sudanese approval for a three part plan for the deployment of a “hybrid” peacekeeping force in Darfur.  Sudan later rejected the plan, and China punished Sudan by removing them from their list of Preferred Trade Countries, pushing Sudan harder to live up to their end of the resolution, and offering to send 275 of its own military engineers to Sudan to help.

BUT THEY DON’T WANT TO CHANGE

But at the same time, China is also strengthening its military ties with Sudan. In April of 2007, after a meeting between the China’s Defense Minister and Sudan’s armed forces Chief of Staff, it was reported that China “was willing to further develop cooperation between the two militaries in every sphere”.

TELL CHINA, “NO!”

China hypocritically will host the “One World, One Dream” Olympic Games while funding, supplying, and protecting a government in the midst’s of committing brutal human rights violations.  China hopes that Olympic participants and spectators won’t notice the money, arms and security continually given to Sudan.   Don’t be fooled by their cover story, let China know YOU KNOW THE TRUTH.
